Daniel 5 records the fall of the Babylonian Empire in 539 B.C. at the hands of two factions that functioned as one army, the Medes and the Persian army.
The final straw for the Babylonian Empire was when king Belshazzar had a drunken party and and decided to blaspheme God by desecrating the sacred vessels.
These were sacred vessels from the holy Temple in Jerusalem that Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonian army destroyed seventy years earlier in 586 B.C.
Seventy years later the stage is set for the fall of Babylon in Daniel 5 when Belshazzar sees a man’s hand appear and sees the handwriting on the wall.
The phrase, “The Handwriting On The Wall” comes from Daniel 5:25-28, meaning there are clear signs that something unpleasant or unwelcome is going to happen.
God writes three words on the wall, the first word has a double emphasis, Mene, Mene, the days of the Babylonian Empire are numbered, Tekel, they are weighed in the balance and found wanting.
In other words you have been tried and found guilty and now God pronounces sentence. Upharsin, or Peres, the Babylonian Empire will now be divided.
It will be divided between the Medes and the Persians. Daniel’s interpretation of the handwriting on the wall promoted him to be third ruler in the province of Babylon, (Dan 5:29).
Many liberal scholars will say that the book of Daniel is not a reliable source because Nabonidus was the last king of Babylon, not Belshazzar. However, Nabonidus and Belshazzar was co-regent.
With the promotion of the Jewish prophet Daniel he was made third ruler in the Babylonian Empire. The discovery of several official Babylonian tablets show Belshazzar was Nabonidus son and co-ruler.
Persia and the Medel Empire was one army even though Persia was the dominant Empire over the Medes. This is portrayed in Daniel 7:5 as the bear is a picture of the Medo-Persian Empire.
The bear raised itself on one side or is lopsided tipping in favor of the Persian Empire over the Medes. The bear had three ribs in its mouth, indicating the three nations conquered by the Medes and the Persians, Babylon, Lydia, and Egypt.
In Daniel 5:31 Darius the Mede is ruling over the Babylonian Empire installed by the Persian king Cyrus at the age of 62 years old. Darius is not to be confused with the later Persian king Darius the great who reigned 18 years later.
The question is, are the descants of the Medes in existence today, and if so, who are they? Where are they located? What is their role in the geopolitical activities today?
The Jerusalem Post reported, Kurdish Militias Face High Stakes Gamble In Potential US Alliance Against Tehran.
Beyond what many see as a recent betrayal, the reality for Kurds in the Islamic regime will likely only worsen if the US and Israel fail to secure regime change.
The Kurds are a hated people and many of them were massacred in the past by Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Saddam Hussein gassed about 5,000 Kurds.
Close to 180,000 Kurds were killed because they desire state independence from these dictatorial Arab states. The state of Israel supports Kurdish independence.
The Medes were an ancient Iranic people who settled in northwestern Iran and were later absorbed into the Persian Empire around 550 B.C. They have no distinct, separate nation but are considered the ancestors of modern Iranian peoples, with their legacy and bloodlines, especially associated with the Kurdish people.
Kurds, numbering roughly 30–45 million, are a stateless ethnic group primarily inhabiting the mountainous region of Kurdistan, spanning southeastern Turkey, northern Iraq, northern Syria, and western Iran.
The Kurds are the modern-day descendants of the Medes and they see a golden opportunity to see the brutal Iranian regime overthrown and Kurdish persecution come to an end.
We know in the future according to Bible prophecy Persia will be destroyed upon the mountains of Israel when they join a Russian led Arab coalition against Israel, (Ezekiel 38:1-5; 39:1-4; 9; 11-12).
God will overthrow this ungodly Gog-Magog Islamic invasion when he destroys a sixth part of this invasion, (Ezek 39:2). In other words, one out of every six Muslims will be wiped out.
Whether the modern-day Medes, the Kurds, join Israel and the US to fight against Iran is yet to be seen. What we do know is Iran, Russia, and Turkey, will be destroyed upon the mountains of Israel.
Russia and Iran are allies and we are yet to see how Russia will respond against this recent attack on Iran. We know Russia will respond in the future.
With the recent US-Israel attack on Iran is setting the stage for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled. This indicates the Rapture of the Church is close at hand!
